Curatorial Industries opens "Self-Storage" on April 18, 2008.

Staff and officials of Curatorial Industries invite "Self-Storage" patrons to celebrate the opening of this temporary special collection library on April 18, 2008, from 7-10PM. The opening reception will be
held at The Hardware Store Gallery, 3824 Mission Street, San Francisco, California, 94110

This unusual collection of boxes, contributed by a roster of international and local artists and archivists, will be available for consultation beginning April 18 and ending May 18, 2008. "Self-Storage" is located in a publicly accessible facility at 300 Treat Avenue in San Francisco  and its regular hours of operation will
be Wednesday to Sunday from 12 to 4PM and by appointment.

The opening of this space – the first of its kind – was inspired by the historical precedent of the Dymaxion Chronofile, a system that Buckminster Fuller devised to chronicle his life. "Self-Storage" will gather boxes conceived and realized by the following individuals and organizations: Archigram Archive, Fern Bayer, Alejandro Cesarco, Joshua Churchill, Dexter Sinister, Trisha Donnelly, Patricia Esquivias, Buckminster Fuller, Ryan Gander, The John Fare Estate, Kristan Horton, Iman Issa, Marie Jager, Stephen Kaltenbach, Micah Lexier, Steven Leiber's Basement, The Long Now Foundation, Chip Lord, Tom Marioni, The Museum of Jurassic Technology, Lisa Oppenheim, The Prelinger Library, Lisi Raskin, Amy Robinson, Sean Snyder, Superstudio, Andrew Tosiello, Frances Trombly, Tris Vonna-Michell, and The Winchester Mystery House.

The newly assembled collection includes a handsome central service point for checking out boxes for in-situ use and for obtaining library memberships. A dedicated computer station and a card catalogue indexing all print, non-print, 3D, audiovisual, and other unclassified objects, will be made available for public use.

A lively array of public programming during the months of April and May will be announced on the official website
www.curatorialindustries.org.

The project cost was funded substantially by the Curatorial Practice
program of the California College of the Arts, with additional support
provided from The Friends of Curatorial Industries.

Curatorial Industries Directors: Petrushka Bazin, Jessica Brier, Chialin Chou, Courtenay Finn, Anna Gritz, Clare Haggarty, Kate Phillimore, and Sarah Robayo Sheridan.

CURATORIAL INDUSTRIES is the join initiative of the curators Petrushka Bazin, Jessica Brier, Chialin Chou, Courtenay Finn, Anna Gritz, Clare Haggarty, Kate Phillimore, and Sarah Robayo Sheridan. All eight members emerge out of the Curatorial Practice Program at the California College of the Arts. In the past the current members of Curatorial Industries have also developed the project Faction, which took form as a magazine, an exhibition and a screening. Another significant initiative was the presentation of Harell Fletcher and Miranda July’s artists’ project Learning to Love You More in an exhibition at MU in the Netherlands. Each of the members of Curatorial Industries have also worked on solo projects including modules in the ongoing exhibition series Americana at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco. Their latest joint project Self-Storage is an innovative curatorial model presented in partial fulfillment of the MA degree in Curatorial Practice.
